Keep checking back, we will be listing any items of interest such as details of our Open Meetings, our AGM and Special Events etc.
Proposed Bridleway
We learned from a useful talk by Lynn Robinson at the AGM something of the legal reasons preventing what seemed a simple change form a footpath into a joint footpath/cycleway; and why a Bridleway was the proposed solution.
The Council responded to our comments by proposing a six month trial period with only Cycleway/Footpath 'permission' notices at either end of the path and with a review at the end of that period. The Friends believe that the Council must not put aside safety issues during the trial and have accepted the offer of a site meeting.
Children's Playground
A resident had questioned why there was no provision for the 'Under 5's in the newly refurbished playground. The matter was raised at the AGM when it was explained that the grant providing the money had not included the younger age group. An opportunity may arise later in the year to bid for a further grant.
Shrinkage in the dry weather caused cracks in the soil - some as deep as 2 feet - exposing the foundations of the swings.
Post Fire matters
The Pavilion was destroyed beyond repair and is being demolished and the site made safe
As advised at the AGM, the Council is reviewing what is needed in the Park, and has since set out various 'Options' which are currently being considered. We start from the basic principle that 'a Pavilion is needed and must be provided in our Park'. To reflect this, we have changed the emphasis of our objectives to:-
Our current objectives are to improve the use made of the Park, to secure its long-term future, and to restore a Pavilion.
